Guide to Wye Valley & Vale of Usk

Places to visit
The border land between England and Wales has a rich heritage and it is due to its location that this area has so many castles and fortifications. From the grandeur of Caldicot and Raglan Castles to the timeless beauty of Usk and Abergavenny Castles they speak of a less settled time when battles were fought over The Marches.
Tintern Abbey and Llanthony Abbey are ancient places of power and worship, with their awe inspiring architecture.
Monmouth Priory www.monmouthpriory.org.uk is well worth a visit; founded in 1070 AD by Benedictine Monks and home of the Geoffrey Tapestry.
The Roman baths and amphitheatre at Caerleon echo with the importance that this area must have held for the invaders. What is now a quite rural town must have rung with the feet of soldiers.
On top of this there are the wonderful market towns themselves to enjoy, with regular, excellent farmers markets.
